The VCT Pacific League, VALORANT’s maiden international league event, experienced an impressive peak viewership of 227,000 on its opening day, March 25th. Esports Charts revealed that the most-watched match of the day was between Japan’s ZETA DIVISION and South Korea’s DRX.
As the first of three international leagues under the VALORANT Champions Tour in 2023, the VCT Pacific League started on March 25th and will run until May 28th. The other two leagues, VCT EMEA and VCT Americas, are set to kick off on March 27th and April 1st, respectively.
The DetonatioN FocusMe vs Paper Rex match from the opening weekend’s second day was the second-most viewed, peaking at 225,588 viewers, with an average viewership of 125,700 across the league so far.
Japanese-speaking platforms accounted for the majority of the viewership, with 141,950 tuning in on the opening day, followed by English-speaking viewers on the second day (46,787). VALORANT esports has seen significant popularity in Japan, as evidenced by the peak viewership of 160,700 for the first split of VALORANT Challengers 2023: Japan, a VCT Pacific second division event.
The VCT, a semi-franchised partner team league by Riot Games, features top organizations from the Pacific region, such as T1 and GEN.G from South Korea and Team Secret and Talon Esports from Southeast Asia. Teams are vying for spots in the VCT Masters in Tokyo, Japan, and the season-ending VCT Champions international event.
With the inaugural international tournament, VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo, becoming VALORANT’s second-most-watched event, the revamped esports ecosystem appears to be gaining traction. Riot Games also announced that the VCT-themed VALORANT bundle for the event raised over $10m (~£8.42m) for participating teams.
