Valve has announced that The International (TI12) will be held in Seattle, USA, at the Climate Pledge Arena from 27th to 29th October 2023.
The event will be a significant one for Dota 2 fans in the Americas, as it marks the first time the tournament will return to Seattle after six years. The venue is known for its zero-carbon footprint and has a seating capacity of around 18,000.
Valve has also disclosed that the group stage and playoffs will be bundled into a single event, named The Road to the International, which will begin on 14th October. The teams that will compete in TI12 will be selected gradually as the Dota Pro Circuit 2023 progresses.
The last time TI was held in Seattle was in 2017, where Team Liquid emerged as the grand champions. The group stage will commence on 14th October, while the playoffs will follow shortly after. There will most likely be no last chance qualifier this year, unlike last year, when Valve hosted a one-time event to combat travel concerns due to the pandemic.
Tundra Esports won the previous TI in Singapore in 2022, defeating Team Secret 3-0 in the grand final to take the championship title and a portion of the $18,930,775 USD prize money. Only Team Liquid has been confirmed to participate in TI12 thus far, with more teams expected to confirm as the Dota Pro Circuit progresses.
