G2 Gozen’s VALORANT ace, Michaela “mimi” Lintrup, has firmly denied any plans to revert to her former FPS game, despite the buzz surrounding Counter-Strike 2’s limited test launch yesterday.
Mimi took to Twitter to address the numerous questions about her potential return to the Counter-Strike scene: “VALORANT has completely transformed my life for the better and granted me opportunities I once only dreamed of. Gaming has never been more enjoyable for me, so there will be no switch. Have fun with the game, though.”
Mimi transitioned from CS:GO to VALORANT in May 2021 after an extensive career in Valve’s FPS, starting her competitive journey in 2013. She played for various organizations such as LDLC, Team Secret, Copenhagen Flames, and XSET. The Danish player was a formidable force in the female gaming scene, earning several titles during her career, including Intel Challenge Katowice in 2016 and 2017 and Copenhagen Games in 2017.
Mimi has since established herself as a prominent figure in VALORANT, and her brand is expected to flourish if Riot Games continues to expand Game Changers, a circuit dedicated to women and marginalized genders. Mimi claimed victory at the VCT Game Changers Championship in November 2022, the largest Game Changers event to date.
Although Mimi has ruled out a move to CS2, her former teammate Julia “juliano” Kiran, a renowned name in both CS:GO and VALORANT esports, transitioned back to Counter-Strike earlier this month to join G2 Oya, the organization’s inaugural female team in Valve’s FPS.
The female competitive landscape is also gaining traction in Counter-Strike, following ESL’s 2022 launch of the Impact circuit, hosting numerous women’s tournaments throughout the year. With the global launch of CS2 scheduled for this summer, Valve has the opportunity to sponsor these events and foster the growth of the scene.
