In the dynamic world of Dota 2, Patch 7.35 has already made waves with the introduction of three new items and a host of new neutral items.
Amidst these updates, the Dota 2 community was taken aback by a curious discovery: two new, unofficial items – Aetherial Hammer and Caster Rapier – appeared in a public game, leading to a whirlwind of discussions and speculations.
The Mystery of Aetherial Hammer & Caster Rapier
These items came into the spotlight through a YouTube video showcasing a Tinker wielding the Aetherial Hammer and Caster Rapier. The Aetherial Hammer, an apparent upgrade from the Meteor Hammer, and the Caster Rapier, a unique item boosting spell amplification, were not officially part of the Dota 2 inventory. The confusion intensified when a Redditor shared screenshots of these items, prompting a deeper dive into their origin and functionality.
Clarifying the Confusion
The revelation about these items not being officially purchasable in the game came from another Reddit user. They clarified that although these items couldn’t be crafted through traditional means, they were accessible through specific codes that Valve had overlooked. By manipulating in-game guides or the sticky/favorite section, players could, albeit briefly, make these items appear in the shop. The Tinker in the video likely acquired these items through such a method, a consequence of a minor programming oversight. Valve has since patched this exploit, making these items unattainable.
- The Aetherial Hammer, resembling the Meteor Hammer in functionality, boasted impressive stats, including boosts in strength, agility, intelligence, spell amplification, mana and spell lifesteal amplification. Additionally, it had a passive effect that increased the area of effect of targeted spells and items.
- On the other hand, the Caster Rapier was simpler, significantly increasing the user’s spell amplification by 50% but carrying the risk of dropping on death, akin to the Divine Rapier.
Interestingly, these items were not entirely new to the community.
Data miners had previously uncovered lines of code in the Dota 2 game files suggesting the existence of these items. They indicated that the Aetherial Hammer could be built from a Meteor Hammer and Ultimate Orb, while the Caster Rapier’s components included an Ultimate Orb and Mystic Staff. The Aetherial Hammer, previously named Aetherial Halo, was also spotted in the game files as early as August 6th.
This accidental glimpse into potential future items has stirred the Dota 2 community, fueling both speculation and anticipation.
While these items are currently not part of the official game, their unintended appearance has provided a tantalizing peek into what might be on the horizon for Dota 2’s ever-evolving gameplay.
