Tundra Esports, a well-known Dota 2 organization from Europe, is going to encounter a problem before TI13, The International 2024. Their starting support player, Edgar “9Class” Naltakian, will not be able to play because of visa issues. In his place, Tundra will be relying on a familiar face: Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, a TI-winning player who used to play for Tundra.
The news was shared on Monday, September 2nd, which was only two days before the start of the tournament, on Tundra’s official social media accounts. The change is due to 9Class, a Russian national, failing to obtain the right visa for Denmark, the host country for TI13. Out of nowhere, Tundra decided to look at Saksa, who used to play as position four for the team and was a key player in their TI triumph.
Saksa’s history with Tundra started in 2022 when he joined the team in a rather unorthodox manner, taking the seat of Adrian “Fata” Trinks. While the move raised eyebrows initially, Saksa was quick to prove his detractors wrong by helping Tundra win the Aegis in their third year of existence as a team.
Saksa retired from the active lineup in September 2023 due to health issues and burnout. He has since stayed on Tundra’s inactive roster and has played in minor tournaments with Team Bald. However, Saksa did not retire from racing, and although he was not very successful, he continued to participate in races. He recently participated in TI13 qualifiers with Team Bald Reborn where they were knocked out by Quest Esports.
Now, with TI13 on the horizon, Saksa has answered Tundra’s call to step in and replace 9Class. He arrives to a team that has changed a lot since he left, and none of the players he used to play with are there. The current roster is now headed by Ivan “Pure-” Moskalenko and Topias “Topson” Taavistainen, two players who will definitely benefit from Saksa’s experience and skill as they seek to conquer TI13.
