VALORANT Champions 2024 is currently being held in Seoul, Korea, featuring the best teams from the four VCT Leagues globally, divided into four groups. Day 6 of the competition was filled with action coming from Groups C and D and two never-seen-before match-ups. This article goes deeper into the key incidents of the confrontation between LEVIATÁN and Trace Esports.
Trace Esports Finish the Uncertain and Defeat LEVIATÁN on Day 6 of VALORANT Champions 2024
Surprisingly, Trace Esports managed to defeat LEVIATÁN even though the latter had much higher expectations. Riot Games’ statistics revealed that only 10% of the fans expected Trace Esports to make it to the playoffs. Even in our own power rankings, we had also ranked them lowly.
In their first match, Trace Esports upset Team Vitality in a best of three series. LEVIATÁN, however, was a strong contender for the championship.
Game 1
Game 1 was played on Bind, the map of choice for Trace Esports. They used a Cypher-Deadlock composition, as many other teams did on this map and Ascent. This strategy takes advantage of Deadlock’s unique feature of placing sonic sensors anywhere on the map which is very flexible. Ho Shun “heybay” Hei’s 1v2 clutch was crucial for Trace Esports to win 13-11.
Game 2
The second game moved to Sunset, chosen by LEVIATÁN. Erick “aspas” Santos was outstanding as Neon, especially in round 10 where he managed to dodge all abilities with Neon’s dash to get a 4K. LEVIATÁN was the clear winner of the map and took it 13-9.
Game 3
In the third game, the team of Trace Esports offered a complete upset, defeating the rival with a score of 13-5. Nevertheless, LEVIATÁN could not capitalize on the Cypher-Deadlock composition even though they employed it. Lu “Kai” Zhinan was the MVP with a KDA of 19/10/5 and five first-bloods.
G2 Esports Pull off the Reverse Sweep and Make it to the Playoffs
The second match of Day 6 was G2 Esports vs EDward Gaming, two teams from VCT Americas and VCT CN. The two teams came into the match having won their previous matches 2-0.
Game 1
Icebox was the pick of G2 Esports and that is where Game 1 was played. However, EDG had a very solid Harbor-Viper composition and they had clearly prepared for this match winning the first six rounds. EDward Gaming won the map 13-8 after Jacob “icy” Lange’s critical 1v2 clutch in round 20 wasn’t enough.
Games 2 and 3
G2 Esports managed to come back and take the next two maps 13-11. One of the highlights was Nathan “Leaf” Orf who demonstrated that he is one of the best aim players. As Killjoy, he got seven first kills and two 3Ks, which were vital for G2’s comeback and qualification to the playoffs.
