Team Spirit, the current TI champions of TI 2023 (TI12), have finally received their championship rings, which is yet another achievement for the Dota 2 team. The rings were given during a private event, as far as it was possible to see from the posts of Valve representatives and the team’s social media accounts.
On September 3rd, Team Spirit shared the rings on Instagram and revealed the details of the rings’ design. These were later followed by official images from Valve. The rings are deep blue with diamonds and the stained glass logo at the center of the ring is unique and represents the achievement of the team.
The use of championship rings at The International has been in existence from the very first tournament. Valve has been keen on celebrating the champions of each year, in line with the North American sports culture, starting from 2011.
The journey of Team Spirit to their second Aegis in 2023 was a story of perseverance, having a bumpy year. They met Gaimin Gladiators in an interesting final and defeated a team that was unbeaten in all the major tournaments of the year.
This win placed Team Spirit’s name in Dota 2 history as only the second team to hold the Aegis twice. The core players Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk, Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, Myroslav “Mira” Kolpakov, and Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov have become two-time TI champions, and Denis “Larl” Sigitov has won his first TI title.
Their first championship came in 2021, during a special, no audience TI in Romania due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, some people wondered whether the lack of a live audience made their win less meaningful. But all the critics were put to a halt by Team Spirit in 2023 as they cemented their status.
Despite the fact that the team has not been active for a while, Team Spirit is still one of the favorites for TI13. The next tournament will be challenging, and Gaimin Gladiators, who are still high on their successful season, and the Team Falcons are expected to be the main rivals.
