Team Secret Secures VCT Pacific Playoff Spot with Convincing Victory

In the intense VCT Pacific region, the battle for playoff spots intensified, with Team Secret and Global Esports fighting for their tournament lives.

On May 15th, the two teams clashed, with Team Secret aiming to secure a playoff spot and Global Esports desperately needing a win to stay in the race. Ultimately, Team Secret emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, securing their spot in the playoffs and significantly impacting the playoff picture.

The first map, Haven, was a closely contested affair. Secret managed to secure a hard-fought 13-9 victory, with Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan making crucial clutches that propelled his team to success. Global Esports’ Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha showcased exceptional Viper utility usage and game sense, keeping the match close. Despite a potential overtime scenario, Secret reached map point at 12-9 and sealed the win in the following round, putting them just one map away from the regional playoffs.

Global Esports had a chance to bounce back on the second map, Lotus. Although they had a slow start, they utilized the Odin more effectively to defend the A site and narrow the gap, entering the second half trailing by a close 7-5 scoreline. However, Secret maintained their lead throughout the match, stifling Global Esports’ momentum even after impressive plays like Kim “t3xture” Na-ra’s Sheriff triple kill. Secret responded with clean round wins to regain control.

Facing elimination at 12-8, Global Esports needed to win four consecutive rounds to force overtime. They fought valiantly and reached double digits but ultimately fell 13-10, resulting in a 2-0 series loss and dashing their playoff hopes and chances of making it to Masters Tokyo.

On the other hand, Team Secret secured their place in the VCT Pacific playoffs. Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza, in a post-match interview, expressed the team’s composed mindset throughout the victory, stating, “For today’s game, for us, it was just a normal day at the office. We came prepared for this whole series.”

With Team Secret claiming the fifth playoff slot in the VCT Pacific, only one spot remains, which will go to either RRQ or Gen.G.

ImageRRQ holds control of their fate and will secure the final spot unless they lose to their next opponent, Paper Rex, in a 2-0 fashion. If they manage to win at least one map, RRQ will secure the sixth and final spot in the VCT Pacific playoffs.
