Team Liquid has qualified for the Grand Finals of The International 2024 (TI13) after defeating Gaimin Gladiators in the Upper Bracket Finals. On September 14, Liquid defeated Gaimin Gladiators for the second time with a score of 2-0 and ended a long-standing issue for Liquid to beat Gaimin Gladiators in critical moments.
However, they have been a thorn in the side of Team Liquid in Dota 2, with the latter only managing five playoff victories against Gaimin in the last two years. More notably, they’ve never managed to beat Gaimin in a grand final, which is a very important event in the game. Today’s victory, however, is a significant step towards the breaking of that curse as Liquid was able to defeat GG in a best of three series.
In Game One, Gaimin Gladiators were aggressive with their draft, and their captain Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov decided to ban Clinkz, which is quite unusual but potentially very powerful. But even with such a performance of Clinkz, the player from Liquid, Michał “Nisha” Jankowski was unyielding and led his team to victory. Even Quinn Callahan’s Dragon Knight could not stand the heat that Team Liquid put on across the map.
In Game Two, Nisha carried on the rampage, this time on Puck, and was always on Gaimin’s backlines. However, the most significant factor was the Tusk/Visage combination of Team Liquid, while Visage’s Familiars caused a lot of trouble for Gaimin. Liquid was just too clinical in his movements and did not give Gaimin any chance to come back into the game.
Therefore, Gaimin Gladiators have been moved to the Lower Bracket and will play against the winner of the Tundra and Team Falcons match. Most fans are still waiting for a rematch between Gaimin and Liquid in the Grand Finals, which will give Liquid another opportunity to overcome their grand final demons against the Gladiators.
