For instance, Gaimin Gladiators published a video called “Gaimin Gladiators Dota Circus” in which the team members were acting like clowns and performing circus stunts. The video was humorous, the participants were joking, and at the end, there was a hint at the appearance of a “clown” on September 4, which was the first day of TI13.
Team Liquid decided to go with a different approach in their video titled “Welcome to the Show.” It is a reference to the Dota 2 Shopkeeper’s story from the early days of Dota 2 and such phrases as “What does a hero truly need?” The circus theme fits TI13 to a T.
HEROIC, on the other hand, offered something that was not seen in other similar products. In their first time at TI, they did a video interview with a donkey courier and jokingly guessed which team will take home the Aegis of Champions. It is a rather peculiar and rather spectacular start from the organization, which enters the Dota 2 scene with a bang.
What is the Next for TI13’s Circus Spectacle?
During the tournament, it is still possible to see whether there will be more circus-related content. It is not common to see teams coming up with such vibrant and thematic content, hence this year’s TI might just be the best. Valve recently banned in-game advertisements during the matches and it appears teams are coming up with new ways of advertising their brands, as seen here with this circus theme.
And with the fan-favorite “Late Game” talk show not being a part of this year’s program, there is interest in what can replace it. Maybe the hosts and talent will bring out the circus props themselves, including clown outfits, to spice up what is already proving to be an unforgettable, if not somewhat bizarre, TI experience.
As the curtain rises on TI13, one thing is certain: this year’s tournament is not like any other Dota 2 tournament; it combines the spirit of the circus and the game’s competitive nature. Whether this circus-themed approach will take TI13 to new heights or not is yet to be seen but the fans are in for a treat no matter what.
