Talon Esports becomes the first team to be eliminated from TI13 as SEA teams’ dreams fade away.

Talon Esports, the reigning champions of the Southeast Asia region, have been the first team to be knocked out of The International 2024 (TI13). However, they failed to defeat BetBoom Team in a close best of three series, and this marks the end of their run in this great Dota 2 competition.

The series started with a very basic but effective game one where BetBoom’s Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko on Luna and Matvey “MieRo`” Vasyunin on Beastmaster just overwhelmed Talon and gave them no chance to come back.

Talon did not go without a fight in the second game though. This was made possible by Rafli “Mikoto” Fathur Rahman who played Monkey King and took the team to the unknown territory of BetBoom. Mikoto’s play was reminiscent of Black Myth: Wukong, which provided moments that could be considered highlights for SEA fans to look forward to.

But game three was the final nail in the coffin for Talon. Even though they managed to extend the match to 49 minutes, Talon’s late-game plan was useless due to BetBoom’s better draft. BetBoom won the last match 2-1, thus deciding the fate of Talon and sending them to 13-16th place and $40,000, which is a little over 1.5% of the gigantic prize pool that TI offers to the participants.

Southeast Asia’s presence in TI13 is somewhat affected by Talon’s withdrawal. The last hope of the region is Aurora, who is also set for elimination as they are scheduled to fight the winner of the South American clash between Heroic and beastcoast. The SEA Dota community now waits to see if Aurora can continue to keep their regional dreams alive.

In the past, SEA has struggled to perform well in TI, even though it has a large population and many talented players. As for now, this year doesn’t appear to be any different, but SEA fans do have something to anticipate with ESL One Bangkok later this year. The region will be expecting better results before the end of the year with the belief that things will turn around in December.
