In a major development for the UK esports scene, the SuperDome esports tournament is set to make its debut in the UK in September 2024.
This event, scheduled to be held in Solihull, just southeast of Birmingham, from September 5th to 8th, is part of a broader initiative that sees nine sporting events in the West Midlands benefiting from a combined £3 million Commonwealth Games legacy funding. Specifically, the SuperDome event has been allocated £250,000 of this funding.
SuperDome, known for hosting prestigious esports events in the MENA and LATAM regions, including League of Legends’ SuperDome Cairo and Valorant’s off-season SuperDome 2022, is expanding its reach to the UK. The upcoming Valorant event in Cairo next week, featuring teams like NASR, Falcons, Furia, and FUT Esports, is a testament to the tournament’s growing influence in the global esports landscape.
While the specific game for the UK SuperDome tournament has not been confirmed, speculation is rife that it could focus on Valorant. This is based on the gap in the 2024 Challengers calendar and the timing of the event, which follows August’s Valorant Champions event. Organizers have promised to provide more details later this week.
SuperDome is organized by BME, a gaming and esports solutions provider with offices in London and Cairo, known for its management of Insomnia Egypt. The UK event will mark the first SuperDome tournament in the country, following BME’s successful hosting of off-season Valorant events in the MENA and LATAM regions over the last two years.
This announcement comes alongside news of ESL One Birmingham 2024, another major esports event set to receive £145,000 in funding as part of the same initiative.

The funding, derived from a £70 million underspend from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, is aimed at boosting the local economy, creating jobs, and drawing in spectators and participants to celebrate the region’s cultural and sporting heritage.
Neil Rami, Chief Executive of the West Midlands Growth Company, emphasized the economic and cultural impact of these events.
“The effective organization and delivery of the Commonwealth Games meant the event came in under budget,” he said. “With this legacy funding, we aim to maintain the momentum and positive impact of the Games for years to come.”
Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, highlighted the intention to leave a lasting legacy beyond the Commonwealth Games.
“This funding will support both new and established local events, driving tourism, business growth, and community engagement in the West Midlands,” he stated.
The investment in the SuperDome esports tournament, along with other cultural and sporting events, represents a significant commitment to the esports industry in the UK.
It also showcases the growing recognition of esports as a key component of cultural and sporting initiatives, capable of generating significant economic and community benefits.
