After an eight-month hiatus from competitive Counter-Strike, Jake “Stewie2K” Yip has declared that he is now a free agent and is prepared to return to competitive gaming.
Having recently ended his association with Evil Geniuses, the 25-year-old has been primarily streaming VALORANT during his break from competitive CS:GO. However, it seems that Stewie2K may be considering a return to the game that brought him fame.
He stated, “During this downtime, grinding Valorant reignited my competitive spirit, and I’m eager to compete again,” while clarifying that Counter-Strike remains a possibility. “Being away from CS doesn’t mean I’ve shut the door on it. I’m always ready to grind, I’ve always loved it, and if the moment comes where I need to grind and compete at the highest level once more, I’m prepared to do so.”
Stewie2K joined Evil Geniuses in January 2022 with former teammates and ELEAGUE Major champions William “RUSH” Wierzba and Timothy “autimatic” Ta, aiming to help the organization reclaim its top position in the game. However, his tenure with the team was brief and tumultuous. After failing to qualify for the PGL Major Antwerp and experiencing four consecutive event eliminations, tensions between Stewie2K and coaching staff Damien “maLeK” Marcel and Paolo “EVY” Berbudeau became publicly known.
Stewie2K played his final match with the team in late April before stepping down in July after Evil Geniuses unveiled its new ‘Blueprint’ initiative, which included the signing of two additional lineups. Since then, he has mainly streamed VALORANT.
Recently, Stewie2K posted a tweet suggesting his renewed interest in Counter-Strike, stating, “It’s been a while,” alongside an image showcasing his access to the newly launched Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test.
