sScary Bids Farewell to VALORANT: A Legacy Concludes

During a live stream, the famous VALORANT player Thanamethk ‘sScary’ Mahatthananuyut officially announced his departure from professional play.

The 25-year-old player, who has played for X10 Esports, XERXIA, and Bleed Esports, is retiring from competitive play after a five-year career. This decision comes after Bleed Esports was disbanded in October 2023 and sScary looked for a new team before he retired from professional CS:GO.

Why sScary Chose to Retire

sScary also explained the reasons for his retirement and people got to know the issues he had to deal with. First of all, the physical fatigue of spending long hours away from home was a major source of stress. To this was a chronic shoulder injury, a condition that did not respond to medical intervention and physiotherapy, which affected his capacity to perform optimally.

In his stream, he said that he had received offers from both international and challenger league teams but he left esports completely. Looking at the current state of the Thai VALORANT scene, sScary said that it is already in the decline of its competitive period, and with the changes happening in the industry, he felt that it was high time for him to focus on his mental health.

A Storied Career in VALORANT

sScary started playing VALORANT in 2020 with Overtime Esports, but it was with X10 Esports that he rose to fame. In X10, he won the VCT 2021 South Asia Masters and played for Southeast Asia in international tournaments such as VCT Masters Reykjavík and VALORANT Champions 2021.

In 2022, he and the X10 roster moved to XERXIA and maintained their high level of performance at the international level. In the same year, sScary signed for Bleed Esports, which was his first experience playing for an English-speaking team. With Bleed, he won the Singapore Challenger League consecutively and won the Ascension tournament, earning the team a place in the international league for 2024.

Unfortunately, Bleed’s time in VCT PACIFIC 2024 was not successful as the team ranked last in all the stages. Bleed Esports was dismissed from the international league, and Riot Games ended their contract with the team due to a breach of obligations. The disbandment made sScary and his teammates find new careers, which led to his retirement from the competitive scene.

A Lasting Legacy

Being one of the most famous Thai players of VALORANT, sScary’s career is a part of Thailand’s esports history. From laying the foundation for the region to take its place on the international stage to motivating numerous players with his determination and performance, his legacy in the game will always be remembered.

Although the audience will not be able to watch him play in professional games anymore, sScary’s story will remain a testament to the greatness that hard work and love for the game can bring to esports. We wish him the very best in this next chapter of his life.
