Sentinels have parted ways with their VALORANT head coach Don “SyykoNT” Muir, with Adam “kaplan” Kaplan stepping in as the new head coach as the VCT 2023: Americas League reaches its halfway point.
Sentinels CEO Rob Moore announced the difficult decision on Twitter on April 16, without providing specific reasons for the change.
The team’s recent string of poor results likely contributed to SyykoNT’s departure. Since joining Sentinels in October 2022 with the goal of building a VALORANT super-team, the roster has won only two out of seven matches. The once top-tier organization’s current roster has seen just two victories in their last 15 games and only seven map wins in 34 attempts.
SyykoNT previously served as XSET’s VALORANT head coach for two years, guiding the team to a 5-6th place finish at VALORANT Champions 2022 and achieving their highest ranking, according to VLR.GG.
As Sentinels’ journey in the VCT 2023: Americas League continues, it remains to be seen how this coaching change will impact the team’s performance in the long run. The VALORANT squad is set to compete again on April 21.
