In a landmark move poised to elevate the esports landscape in Scotland, the Scottish Esports Network is set to host the country’s first National Esports Forum.
This groundbreaking event, aimed at ‘connecting professionals and growing a productive discourse,’ marks a pivotal moment in Scottish esports, setting the stage for in-depth conversations about the future of competitive gaming in the region.
A Platform for Solution-Driven Dialogue
Scheduled for January 11th, 2024, the online forum is not just an event but a beacon for esports enthusiasts and professionals. Open to all interested parties, the forum promises an arena for solution-driven conversation, addressing the pressing needs and opportunities in the Scottish esports scene. This initiative follows the previous issues surrounding Esport Scotland’s delayed payments from SEL5 last year, highlighting the need for transparent and constructive dialogue within the community.
The Scottish Esports Network, established in February 2023, is the brainchild of Dale R Murray, the former Creative Director of the Scottish Esports League. With half a decade of experience in Scottish esports, Dale observed a stark gap in community and industry growth domestically.
“Whenever there is an esports event in Scotland, there’s a fantastic buzz and a feeling of community that fizzles out very quickly afterwards,” Dale noted.
His vision for the Network is to cultivate a sustained and thriving esports environment in Scotland, inspired by successful models like ESI London in England.
The Goals of the Scottish Esports Network
Dale’s ambition extends beyond sporadic events. He envisions the Network as a catalyst for regular networking opportunities, panel discussions, guest lectures, and more.
“Scotland has a thriving game development industry, being the home of heavy hitters like Rockstar, 4J, and countless fantastic indie studios,” Dale remarks.
Coupled with Scotland’s passion for games and competition, Dale sees immense potential for the competitive gaming ecosystem to flourish. However, he emphasizes that success hinges on collaborative efforts across the industry.
In addition to the online forum, the Scottish Esports Network is gearing up for an in-person event in Glasgow come February.
This gathering is set to further solidify the Network’s commitment to bringing the Scottish esports community together, fostering face-to-face interactions and building lasting connections.
