Riot Games Plans to Address League of Legends’ Smurfing Problem

Smurfing has long plagued the League of Legends community, but a Riot Games developer recently revealed on Reddit that solutions are in the works. Riot Siraris acknowledged that encountering toxic smurfs in a League game is a “horrible” experience and reassured players that upcoming changes would address this issue.

While unable to provide specific details on the new features or how they will tackle the smurfing problem, Siraris wanted players to know that the developers are working on solutions. Smurfing has been an issue since the game’s inception, with many smurfs becoming increasingly toxic towards lower-ranked players, as highlighted in the Reddit post that sparked the discussion.

In addition to addressing smurfing, Riot developers are also working to improve the ranked system. Siraris stated that players should begin to see benefits later this year, with consistent improvements continuing over the next few years.

It is possible that the planned improvements could be introduced in the coming months or during this year’s preseason. However, the developers are cautious about implementing changes without first ensuring they will actually improve the ranked system. Siraris emphasized the importance of not launching “something half-baked that will introduce even more chaos into the system.”
