Riot Games Announces Project K: A New Physical TCG Set in the League of Legends Universe

Riot Games is entering the TCG market with its new project, Project K, which will be a new take on the trading card game. This new physical card game is another new frontier for the studio, created by a team of professionals led by Game Director Dave Guskin and Executive Producer Chengran Chai.

A Gradual Rollout: China First, Then the World

Project K is expected to be launched in early 2025, beginning with China. But for fans who are dying to get a glimpse of the game, they will not have to wait long as a preview is set to happen during the TFT Macao Open on December 13-15. Riot Games has also announced its plans for international expansion and is actively looking for publishing partners to release the game in the United States and other countries.

Not Just Legends of Runeterra in Cardboard Form

Although Project K is based on Riot’s digital card game, Legends of Runeterra, the company stated that it is not an adaptation of the game. However, it will include champions, stories, and artworks from the League of Legends but will create its own competitive environment. Riot has big plans for a solid tournament system with both national and international tournaments, which makes Project K a real contender in the TCG market.

Riot Games’ Expanding Multiverse

Riot Games is expanding the universe of games and media connected to League of Legends. Riot over the years has released games such as VALORANT (FPS), Teamfight Tactics (TFT), Wild Rift (mobile MOBA) and has hinted at even more games in the future, including the upcoming fighting game 2XKO next year. People are also eagerly waiting for the League of Legends MMO and rejoicing over the release of Arcane Season 2 on Netflix.

What’s Next for Project K?

For now, anticipation rises as Riot prepares the groundwork for Project K’s launch. The TFT Macao Open will be the first time fans get to see it and it could be the start of another big gaming hit for Riot. Given Riot’s past successes in delivering fun experiences across various game genres, Project K could be another feather in Riot’s cap in its mission to reimagine gaming entertainment.
