Gamers Rally to Support Global Causes Through Riot’s Innovative Fundraising Initiatives
Riot Games has announced that its Social Impact Fund has crossed a remarkable milestone of $50 million in donations.
Launched in 2019, the Riot Games Social Impact Fund was established to streamline charitable contributions from players, making it easier and more impactful to support global nonprofits. The fund, in collaboration with ImpactAssets, has extended its reach to over 450 nonprofits in 28 regions, targeting key issues like education, citizenship, and sustainability.
One of the fund’s most notable campaigns revolved around the release of League of Legends’ 1000th skin, Dawnbringer Karma.
This initiative alone generated over $6 million for charity, a testament to the players’ enthusiastic participation. It also marked the start of Riot’s Charity Voting Campaign, allowing players to vote for regional charities to receive funds, a practice that has now become an annual tradition and earned Riot its second Golden Halo Award.
In 2020, Riot expanded its philanthropic efforts to its then-newly released tactical shooter game, VALORANT.
The VALORANT Give Back Bundle, which contributed a portion of its proceeds to the Social Impact Fund, raised $5.5 million in its first year. Over three years, the initiative has accumulated nearly $15 million, showcasing the community’s continued dedication to giving back.
The release of Riot’s animated series “Arcane” on Netflix in 2021 further boosted the fund’s capabilities.
Celebrating the series, Riot Games encouraged players to nominate charities for community grants, resulting in 30 organizations receiving $10,000 each.
Building on this momentum, 2022 saw the introduction of the first Charity Voting Campaign, where players had a direct say in allocating funds to different causes.
This campaign resulted in approximately 775,000 votes from players, distributing $6 million to various impactful nonprofits around the globe.
