PGL Upgrades Tournament PC in European RMR

In a strategic move to elevate the competitive gaming experience, PGL has announced a significant upgrade to the PCs used in the European RMR, addressing the concerns raised by the esports community regarding hardware performance.

The decision to switch from the 2020 AMD Ryzen 5950X to the 2022 AMD Ryzen 5800x3D CPUs marks a pivotal step in ensuring that the tournament’s equipment meets the high standards required for top-tier esports competition.

The AMD Ryzen 5800x3D, chosen for its gaming-specific design, boasts AMD’s 3D V-cache technology, making it particularly suited for demanding games like CS2, where high frame rates and stability are crucial for competitive play. This upgrade is expected to solve the frame rate issues that competitors faced earlier in the tournament, offering a smoother and more reliable gaming experience.

Continuing with the Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB graphics cards, PGL ensures that the visual performance of the tournament PCs remains uncompromised. These GPUs are well-regarded for their powerful performance, capable of handling the intense graphical demands of modern esports titles.

One of the most notable improvements with the 5800x3D CPU is its performance in the bottom 1% percentile, where it significantly outperforms both Intel and non-3D AMD chips.

This measure of performance is critical in esports, as it reflects the system’s ability to maintain stable frame rates under heavy loads, a key factor in avoiding gameplay disruptions during critical moments of competition.

The hardware upgrade coincides with Valve’s recent update to CS2, which introduced various performance improvements. This update, coming after the February 7 Arms Race update that negatively affected frame rates, will work in tandem with the new CPUs to ensure an optimal gaming environment for competitors.

PGL has characterized the PC upgrade as a “temporary fix for Europe,” leaving questions about the hardware specifications for the Americas or Asia RMRs, set to be held in Monterrey and Shanghai, respectively. This move indicates PGL’s commitment to addressing immediate concerns within the European competitive scene, with an eye possibly towards evaluating similar upgrades in other regions based on the outcomes of the European RMR.

This commitment by PGL to enhance the hardware for the European RMR underscores the importance of technological excellence in esports.
