Singaporean esports organization Paper Rex has kicked off its VCT 2023: Pacific League campaign with a strong 2-0 victory against DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM). The team recently welcomed Ilia “something” Petrov, their seventh active Valorant player, just days before the league began.
Following their match, Paper Rex’s Head Coach Alexandre “alecks” Sallé discussed the team’s main and substitute players, now that they have an expanded seven-player roster.
Alecks on Paper Rex’s Potential Main Valorant Lineup and Substitutes
At VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo, Paper Rex maintained a standard six-player lineup, with five active players and one substitute. After a first-round elimination by Cloud9, the team signed promising player something to boost their lineup.
In their recent match against DFM, Paper Rex fielded its regular main lineup:
- Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart
- Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto
- Benedict “Benkai” Tan
- Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee
- Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie
At the time, something had not yet joined the team at their Seoul bootcamp. Now that he’s with them, Paper Rex has the flexibility to experiment with different player combinations. Alecks shared his thoughts on the subject, discussing which players would likely be part of the main lineup and which ones might be rotated as needed.
“Honestly, I think probably f0rsakeN and mindfreak, just because of the nature of their roles will be the safer ones, but I think we will run everyone a fair chance before we decide what’s the best roster moving forward,” Alecks said.
With many matches remaining in the VCT 2023: Pacific League, Paper Rex is a top contender to qualify for the Tokyo Masters and VCT Champions. It will be intriguing to see how they utilize their expanded roster and whether they can effectively deploy all their players.
