MSI 2023 Sets the Stage for Epic Rematches Between Major Regions

The upcoming matches at the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational are generating excitement among League of Legends fans, as they will feature rematches between the finalists of the Spring Splits in the LCS, LPL, and LCK.

While some fans have been longing for more cross-regional games, this set of finals rematches promises intense competition.

The matchups were confirmed after JD Gaming’s dominant three-game sweep over Golden Guardians on May 12, securing their place for another showdown against Bilibili Gaming in the next round. BLG earned their spot with a resounding sweep against Cloud9, pushing the North American team into the lower bracket to face off against the Guardians.

In another highly anticipated rematch, T1 and Gen.G will clash, reminiscent of their battle in the 2023 LCK Spring Finals. Both teams had remarkable success against their European opponents during MSI, with G2 Esports being the only Western team to secure a win in the bracket stage, albeit against Gen.G. G2 Esports is also the only non-finalist team remaining after their elimination by MAD Lions in the LEC postseason.

ImageWhile some fans may view these rematches as less thrilling, others see it as an opportunity for teams to seek redemption and rectify past mistakes.

The new tournament format and recent results ensure that each of the four regions will face their rival region at least once during the bracket stage. The upper bracket clash will feature the LCK and LPL, while the lower bracket will see the LEC and LCS go head-to-head.

The action kicks off tomorrow with the Gen.G versus T1 match on Summoner’s Rift. Fans won’t want to miss these exhilarating battles between some of the best teams in the world.
