League of Legends’ Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is back and set to kick off on May 2 in London, UK, with Riot Games revealing the schedule for the event.
This year’s tournament will feature a total of 13 teams, including the five that have already secured their spots in the bracket stage. The remaining eight teams will battle it out in the play-in stage for the last three spots in the bracket.
The tournament will start with the play-in stage from May 2 to May 7, which will feature a double-elimination bracket with all matches played in a best-of-three format. As the tournament progresses, teams will know which opponents they will face.
On May 2, PSG Talon and DetonatioN FocusMe will play against each other, followed by G2 Esports and LOUD.
The second day of play-ins will feature BiliBili Gaming against Movistar R7 and Golden Guardians against GAM Esports.
On May 4, the third day of play-ins, the matchups are yet to be determined, and the same goes for the fourth and fifth days of the play-in stage.
Once the play-in stage is done and dusted, the bracket stage will begin, starting on May 9 and concluding with the grand finals on May 21. The bracket stage will also be a double-elimination format and will feature all matches played in a best-of-five format. The pairings for the bracket stage will be determined by a draw, which will take place after the play-in stage.
On May 9, the first round of the bracket stage will begin with two matchups between teams that have qualified from the play-in stage. The rest of the games for the bracket stage will be determined by the results of the previous matches.
There will be a one-day break on May 15 before the bracket stage resumes, and it will conclude with the finals on May 21.
