The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 has reached its exciting conclusion, with only six games left to determine the champion.
Esports Charts has compiled the interim viewership results of the League of Legends championship held at the Copper Box Arena in London. The tournament has already achieved the second-highest Peak Viewers number in the history of the series, largely due to the intense Korean derby between T1 and Gen.G.
Following the Play-In Stage, the top eight teams advanced to the Bracket Stage to continue their battle. The initial stage of the double-elimination bracket saw no major upsets, as the favorites convincingly defeated their opponents, with three out of the four matches concluding in 3-0 sweeps. G2 Esports managed to win a map against Gen.G but couldn’t muster enough strength to secure more victories.
The second round of the playoffs presented compelling matchups and rivalries. The most thrilling battle occurred between T1 and Gen.G, bitter rivals from the LCK, engaging in a captivating series that stretched to five maps, with Faker’s team emerging victorious. Another notable match was the clash between two LPL teams, BiliBili Gaming and JD Gaming, with the latter dominating the series and securing a decisive win.
In the first round of the lower bracket, two more LEC-LCK derby matches took place: G2 Esports crushed MAD Lions 3-0, and Cloud9 confidently defeated Golden Guardians 3-1. As a result, six teams from four regions continued their pursuit of the championship.
While it is still too early to provide a comprehensive viewership summary, the tournament has already secured the second-highest Peak Viewership in the series’ history, with over 1.9 million PV witnessing the clash between T1 and Gen.G. The second most popular match was the one between T1 and MAD Lions, reaching 1.4 million Peak Viewers.
The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 has garnered an average viewership of 680.6K so far, marking the second-highest result among all tournaments in the series (second only to MSI 2021). If the average viewership remains consistent, MSI 2023 has the potential to accumulate more Hours Watched than MSI 2022.
In terms of Peak Viewership, MSI 2023 has the opportunity to set a new record in the series. The highly popular teams from South Korea are still in contention, and an ideal scenario for the tournament’s statistics would be a final showdown between T1 and G2 Esports, which would undoubtedly attract a massive audience.
It’s worth noting that the Peak Viewership number for last year’s Mid-Season Invitational 2022 came close to reaching the 2.2 million mark, with the record set during the match between T1 and RNG.
The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 took place from May 2 to 21 in London, with a prize pool of $250K. You can follow the event on the coverage page.
