Preparing for Worlds 2024 with Patch 14.18
With Worlds 2024 on the horizon, Riot Games is still working on the game’s balance with the release of Patch 14.18. After the release of Patch 14.17 on August 28, which brought some minor changes to the major champions, Riot has been working to balance some of the oppressive picks in both the professional games and solo ranked. Furthermore, Riot has been trying to adjust some of the basic runes for marksmen champions who have been dominating the high Elo games.
Patch 14.18 Release Date
Mark your calendars! Based on Riot’s official patch schedule, Patch 14.18 is expected to be released on Wednesday, September 11. This will be the 18th of the 24 patches that are expected to be released in the year.
How Will Patch 14.18 Impact the Meta?
Based on what we have seen so far, Riot appears to be keen on increasing the strength of AP items while nerfing lifesteal items that are popular among ADCs. The changes in the champion also have some interesting implications. For example, Jarvan IV will have his passive’s health ratio increased to 8% of current HP, which is similar to his power level in the previous year’s meta. Bruiser junglers such as Viego and Xin Zhao are also being given the boost, which might bring them back into the meta after some time.
At the same time, such champions as Nasus, Leona, and Ziggs are being nerfed because of their rising popularity in competitive play. Most of these changes make sense, but the Nasus nerfs specifically could have a large effect on his playability, leading to speculation as to whether this will relegate him to the bottom of the barrel again.
