North American Counter-Strike fans have something to cheer about. During the Americas RMRs for the PW Shanghai Major 2024, Team Liquid and Complexity Gaming qualified for the event, marking a great return to form for NA CS on the international level. As the RMRs come to an end, here is a summary of today’s intense matches.
Liquid and Complexity Deliver for NA Fans
Both teams entered the 2:1 bracket with strong chances, though their paths to qualification were anything but the same. The first series showcased the intensity of the qualifiers as M80 was overwhelmed in a 2-0 series. EliGE and floppy were standout players, with both delivering performances that cemented their team’s spot at the Major.
Liquid’s path, however, was far from straightforward. In a thrilling best-of-three against FURIA, the match went to the third map as these two giants battled for a Major spot. Despite some inconsistent play from YEKINDAR, Liquid emerged victorious, helping them overcome a disappointing showing in the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 qualifiers.
FURIA and M80 Are on the Brink of Collapse
For FURIA and M80, the road to Shanghai appears far more challenging now. Both teams are clinging to their last chances to qualify, and even a win in their upcoming 2:2 bracket matches may not be enough. They could still face the prospect of a 7th place decider match for the final Major spot—a position neither team wants to find themselves in.
As Brazil’s top team, FURIA now finds itself ranked below MIBR and paiN Gaming, both of whom have already secured their Major spots. An initial defeat to Legacy put FURIA at a disadvantage, and despite a hard-fought match against Liquid, their chances look slim. This loss in the 2:1 bracket is especially bitter given FURIA’s reputation as Brazil’s best.
M80 faces similar struggles. Despite consistent LAN performances in 2024 and high expectations, they are close to missing their second consecutive Major. With significant investments made in their roster, a Major appearance is critical for M80. Following a close loss to Complexity, M80 must now defeat BESTIA to keep their Major dreams alive.
