LEC 2025: New Format, Fearless Draft, and Roadshow Events

LEC 2025: New Format, Fearless Draft, and Roadshow Events

The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) is set to introduce exciting changes for the 2025 season, including the launch of Fearless Draft, the removal of Championship Points and Season Finals, and a new touring concept for the LEC. Here’s a breakdown of the changes in the LEC format for the next season.

LEC 2025 Overview

The LEC will retain its three splits in 2025: Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each split will offer distinct formats, providing fans and teams with unique experiences throughout the year. Additionally, certain matches in the Spring Split will be hosted in different countries, selected by the teams. The Summer Split will also feature a roadshow, taking the LEC to new locations as the season concludes.

Currently, fans can anticipate 1-2 local LEC events per year, providing more opportunities for live, face-to-face interactions. Most games will align with the live patch, similar to the LCS, but patch timing will be adjusted to maintain competitive balance for playoffs.

Winter Split 2025: Fearless Draft Debut

The Winter Split will kick off the season with the introduction of Fearless Draft, a bold new drafting system that adds extra layers of strategy to each match. Teams will compete in a single round-robin group stage over three weeks, with each match played as a best of one. The top eight teams will advance to a double elimination playoff bracket featuring both best of three and best of five games using the Fearless Draft system. The split’s winner will earn a spot in the season’s new international event.

Key Dates: The Winter Split begins on January 18, 2025.

Spring Split 2025: Enhanced Best-of-Three Format

The Spring Split will feature a round-robin Best-of-Three (Bo3) format, ensuring each team plays a minimum of nine Bo3 matches. This structure highlights adaptability and resilience, pushing teams to compete in multi-game series from the outset. The top six teams will advance to a double elimination playoff bracket, where all matches will be in a Best of Five (Bo5) format. Unlike the Winter Split, the Spring playoffs will not use Fearless Draft, emphasizing traditional drafting strategies. The top two teams will secure automatic seeding to the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2025.

Summer Split 2025: Group Stage Excitement and Roadshow Finale

The Summer Split will shift to a group stage format, focusing on Bo3 series. The ten teams will be split into two groups of five, with each group competing in Bo3 matches. The first and second place teams from each group will advance directly to the playoffs, while the third and fourth place teams will face cross-group elimination Bo3 matches for the remaining playoff spots. The playoffs will be a double elimination Bo5 series to determine which teams will move on to the 2025 World Championship.
