League of Legends skins to miss custom voiceover due to SAG-AFTRA strike

New LoL and Wild Rift skins are delayed as Riot Games adapts to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Temporary Measures in Place

Riot Games recently released a statement to fans stating that English voice overs for skins in
League of Legends will not be released until the SAG-AFTRA strike is over. This primarily impacts
League skins and some Wild Rift skins.

To ensure fans still receive their highly anticipated skins, Riot will use existing voice overs for the new skins.
Players using non-English languages can relax, as custom VOs for non-English versions will be released as planned.

Although Wild Rift is not directly part of the strike, Riot clarified that if voice actors decide not
to work in protest, those skins will release with base voice acting as well.

“We know this isn’t ideal, and we understand it’s frustrating to have to wait for custom VO, but this approach
lets us respect the ongoing strike while continuing to put out new content. We will continue to provide you with
updated VO with the quality you want as soon as possible.”

Why is the Strike Affecting League?

SAG-AFTRA is a union that represents voice actors in the United States entertainment industry,
standing for Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
Earlier this year, in March, the union went on strike against some of the biggest video game developers due to
issues surrounding the use of AI in voice acting and unfair treatment of workers.

As a result, voice actors in the union have stopped recording new lines for games like League of Legends.
Riot Games has assured fans that custom voiceovers will be added to the skins as soon as the strike concludes
and recording becomes possible.

What This Means for Future Skins?

While Riot has not specified which skins will be affected, major releases are expected alongside the new 2025 season
and Patch 25.S1.1. However, one skin that appears unaffected for now is Radiant Serpent Sett,
which was previewed by the community channel SkinSpotlights.

Riot Games has urged fans to remain patient as the situation continues to unfold. While players eagerly await
new lines for their favorite champions, the community’s understanding will help Riot’s team and voice actors
during this critical time for the gaming industry.
