The 2025 Season One update brings back one of the community’s most beloved features: map skins. Riot Games is redesigning Summoner’s Rift with a new Noxus theme, including new turrets, Nexuses, and shopkeepers. Below is a brief of what you should expect in the next season.
Nexus Turret Respawns: A Game-Changing Update
Before diving into the new map skin, let’s talk about a major gameplay change: Nexus turret respawns. The loss of both Nexus turrets has been a feeling that leaves teams with no chance of coming back into the game. Riot’s solution? Nexus turrets that can be respawned and are back at full health! While the exact respawn time has not been disclosed, this change should ensure that matches do not feel unwinnable even when the stakes are high.
The Noxus Map Skin: Summoner’s Rift but with a Twist of Darkness
The theme of Season One is Noxus and it will turn Summoner’s Rift into the proper battlefield for the brutal and powerful region. You will be able to spot Noxus-themed buildings, turrets, the Nexus, and the surrounding environment will have a more warlike look. The shopkeepers will also be included in the Noxian aesthetic, making the entire experience consistent with League’s rich lore.
To enhance the experience, Riot is also introducing a new epic monster, Atakhan, who fits the Noxus theme of the event. But do not worry, some of the previous favorites such as the Void-related monsters and grubs will also be present in the game.
Riot’s New Strategy for Seasonal Updates
All of this is part of Riot’s new strategy for seasonal updates. From the League of Legends development team: “We want each season’s theme to go beyond the art and really resonate with gameplay.” League has large stories and a lot of lore, and what we are doing is incorporating the spirit of each region into Summoner’s Rift.
Although the map will be given a Noxian makeover, not all is up for change. The blue buff area, river, and lane paths will look familiar to players, but the colors will be slightly changed to fit the new theme. Riot is toning it down, making sure that the map remains familiar but giving it a unique Noxus twist.
What is Next for League of Legends Maps?
These map changes will start during Season One that will cover roughly the first quarter of the year 2025. Moving forward, every new season will focus on a different region of Runeterra, so more themed transformations are expected throughout the year.
