LCK’s Youngest Bot Laner, Peyz, Clinches Title and Aims for MSI 2023 Success

Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, Gen.G’s bot laner, has become one of the LCK’s royal roaders, following in the footsteps of players such as Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan and Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong. Royal roaders are players who secure their first LCK title during their debut split.

At only 17 years old, Peyz replaced Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, the Worlds 2017 champion, who left for JD Gaming in the offseason. Peyz now teams up with Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong in the bot lane. As a rookie from Gen.G’s academy team, he set the record as the youngest bot laner to win an LCK title.

Peyz demonstrated exceptional skill during the LCK Spring 2023 finals. Though it took Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon five years to win his first domestic title last summer with Gen.G, Peyz achieved the feat in just six months.

Throughout the four-game series, Peyz played Xayah twice and Apehlios and Jinx once. In the first game, he posted a perfect 14/0/3 KDA on Xayah, a champion he hadn’t played during the regular season. T1 consistently banned his most played champion, Zeri, with one of the highest win rates.

Despite his limited experience, Peyz exhibited bold and consistent gameplay, showing a strong understanding of when to attack or retreat defensively. His teammates provided ample support. As a result, he was awarded the LCK Spring 2023 finals MVP, including a Tiffany & Co. bracelet and an additional 5 million won (around USD $3,800). Gen.G took home the championship trophy and 20 million won (USD $150,000).

During his acceptance speech, Peyz expressed gratitude to the fans and excitement for the upcoming MSI 2023. He mentioned looking forward to facing Ruler, who he admires as an AD carry. Gen.G’s coach, former KT Rolster jungler Go “Score” Dong-bin, has already secured two LCK titles with Gen.G, both against T1. Gen.G and T1 will represent the LCK’s first seed at MSI 2023.
