Argentinian esports organization KRÜ Esports, owned by ex-footballer Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero, has entered traditional sports by creating a padel team. This step is a major achievement for KRÜ as it participates in the Hexagon Cup, a prestigious padel competition with teams managed by famous personalities.
The Hexagon Cup will involve a number of famous sportspeople and other celebrities as team captains. Among them are tennis players Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, the footballer of the Polish national team Robert Lewandowski, and Hollywood actress Eva Longoria, making the competition star-studded and combining physical fitness and show business.
The format of the tournament is based on the Kings League, a seven-a-side football league that has been operating in Spain. The Kings League has teams with famous players such as MAD Lions KOI’s Ibai Llanos, former footballer Iker Casillas, Team Heretics Co-Owner David ‘TheGrefg’ Cánovas, and KRÜ’s own Sergio Agüero. This combination of sports and entertainment has been a success and the Hexagon Cup wants to repeat it within the padel world.
KRÜ’s foray into padel is under the partnership with Taktika Pádel, a recognized padel association in the United States and Mexico. This is complemented by the Business Padel Tour, a platform that focuses on the development of padel at the business level in Spain. The team will combine the experience of Taktika Pádel with the competitive nature and outreach of KRÜ within the esports scene.
The KRÜ Padel team is captained by Argentine player Federico Chingotto, who is currently ranked fourth in the world. Chingotto will be the franchise player and the team captain, while Claudia Jensen will be on the court. The team will be managed by Maxi Sánchez, which will strengthen the team even more.
KRÜ Esports was established in 2020 and is one of the biggest Spanish-speaking esports organizations that participate in games such as VALORANT, Rocket League, and Counter-Strike 2. The organization’s growth has been rapid, and in November last year, it got even more star power when Lionel Messi, Aguero’s former Argentina teammate and World Cup champion, became a co-owner.
Commenting on the expansion into padel, Agüero said: “We are very excited to introduce KRÜ into such an exciting sport as padel and even more so with Taktika Padel. Hexagon is a platform that is taking the sport to the next level and we are prepared to go out there and perform and give it our best.”
