The Americas RMR for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 has concluded, and the final 10 teams have qualified for CS2’s biggest event of the year. Today, two teams from Brazil — Imperial and FURIA — secured their positions for next year’s Shanghai event, bringing great joy to their fans. Here is how these last decisive matches played out.
Imperial Outperforms RED Canids for Major Certification
In a decisive match earlier today, Imperial played against coldzera’s RED Canids to determine the final rankings and the sixth and final Americas RMR spot for the PW Shanghai Major. While the 2-0 victory for Imperial may have appeared to be a fairly easy win, the second map was anything but; the second map went into double overtime, which speaks to the level of competition. Despite this, RED Canids could not pull through, and the odds were slightly in CS2’s favor.
Imperial deserves credit for decenty and felps, a new player and a veteran respectively, who came through clutch to help their team secure a victory. RED Canids, on the other hand, had to rely on HEN1, and they struggled as coldzera did not perform as highly as he had throughout this RMR. This win also enabled Imperial to avoid the nerve-wracking 7th place decider, qualifying for the Shanghai Major in style.
FURIA Comes Back to Dominate M80
After defeating 9z Team and BESTIA, FURIA and M80 battled for the final Americas RMR spot, with North America competing against South America. Although there were some early troubles, FURIA demonstrated control of the game and won the match against M80.
In the map Anubis, FURIA was down 8-3 but came back to win 10 consecutive rounds before ending the map at 13-8. In Vertigo, they were down 5-2 but surged back to take 11 of the next 14 rounds, eliminating M80’s chances of making the Shanghai final. Once FURIA found their rhythm, they proved far too strong for M80, leaving the North American side bitterly disappointed at missing out on the CS2 Major despite high expectations.
