Golden Guardians Defy Odds, Reach LCS Grand Finals and Secure MSI Spot

In a surprising turn of events, Golden Guardians overcame FlyQuest in the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs lower bracket finals, earning a spot in the LCS grand finals and their first-ever MSI qualification. This underdog story saw the team demonstrate exceptional skills and determination throughout the five-game series.

Both Golden Guardians and FlyQuest displayed impressive teamwork and strategy, with leads changing hands frequently throughout the series. Golden Guardians, however, managed to turn the tide in their favor during game four’s final dragon fight, thanks to a well-timed three-man Malphite ultimate from Licorice. This momentum carried them to a decisive victory in game five, featuring an innovative Sion-leash strategy that secured them an early lead.

Golden Guardians’ success in the Spring Playoffs means they will join Cloud9 as the second representative for North America at the upcoming MSI in London, England, running from May 2 to 21. This marks the first international League of Legends competition for the organization.

The grand finals of the 2023 LCS Spring Playoffs will take place tomorrow in Raleigh, North Carolina, before the start of the MSI event in a few weeks. FlyQuest will resume their LCS journey in the Summer Split later this year.
