GODSENT, one of the three unbeaten teams in the BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic Swiss group stage, has secured a surprising victory against the world’s No. 18 team, BIG, in the first round of the tournament’s playoff stage.
The German team, BIG, has previously been recognized as a dominant force in European online play, having won events such as FunSpark ULTI Europe Finals and Roobet Cup in 2022. However, they lost 1-2 to the Swedish team during a period of adjustment after benching their main AWPer Florian “syrsoN” Rische in February.
GODSENT advanced through the first stage with wins against Sprout, Sangal, and HEET, defeating the French team once more in the playoff’s first round before overcoming BIG. Meanwhile, BIG was one of four teams, including Cloud9, MOUZ, and Virtus.pro, to receive direct invitations to the tournament’s quarter-finals.
Joel “joel” Holmlund, GODSENT’s 18-year-old player, is making a name for himself in the tournament with a 1.43 rating so far and a 1.44 rating with 100 ADR as the top player in the quarter-final win against a top 20 team.
BIG now turns its attention to the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, where they will face Rare Atom on March 30, followed by participating in the BLAST.tv Major’s European RMR in Copenhagen, Denmark, in April.
As for GODSENT, who has struggled to leave a lasting impression in second-tier tournaments since forming at the beginning of the year, they will continue their undefeated BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic journey in the semi-finals against the winner of the Cloud9 and Falcons series.
