Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the now-bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, may be barred from playing League of Legends due to ongoing legal negotiations. According to a March 29 Business Insider report, Bankman-Fried’s lawyers are in discussions with New York prosecutors that, if successful, could ban him from playing video games with chat or voice communication features.
Presently confined to his parents’ home in Palo Alto, California, Bankman-Fried could also be restricted from using internet-enabled mobile devices and only permitted to access a limited range of websites from his computer, including Zoom, YouTube, Wikipedia, Spotify, and Netflix.
Bankman-Fried is an avid League of Legends player, and it was common for him to play the game during meetings while managing FTX, which filed for bankruptcy in November 2022. Despite his multitasking, he reportedly raised over $200 million in funding. Leading up to November 2022, Bankman-Fried played over 1,000 League matches but only reached Bronze. If the proposed conditions are accepted, he will be unable to advance further.
Bankman-Fried’s trial is set for October 2 this year.
