The Americas have a lot to be happy about as four teams from the region have qualified for the playoffs of PGL Wallachia Season 2. This is a good time for both North and South America to be represented in the international teams as their teams are strong. Such a powerful position in the playoff bracket, the community is discussing the unexpected Americas-centric end of the group stage.
PGL Wallachia S2 Group Stage Review
The group stage was concluded with three South American teams, HEROIC, beastcoast, and Infinity, and the North American team, Nouns Esports, qualifying for the playoffs. Four of the eight teams that remain are from the Americas and this is a big boost for these regions that have always been dominated by the giants. Some of the best teams such as Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators are not participating in this event but there are still a lot of interesting matches especially due to the new lineups after TI13.
Even Dota 2 commentator Lyrical took to Twitter, proudly noting the Americas’ strong representation in the final eight:
“4/8 teams from the Americas confirmed best region!!!!”

While the Americas had six teams in total at the event, having four teams qualify for the playoffs is still a good achievement, given the difficulties the region has faced in the past few years.
Americas Dota 2: A Comeback Story?
In the past, both NA and SA regions have been considered to be lagging behind the other more successful regions. The loss of such big organizations such as Evil Geniuses from the NA scene in the recent past created a void that has been filled by new but relatively unknown teams. But there are teams like Nouns Esports who have shown that they deserve to be there and have been performing well at events such as The International.
On the South American side, the scene has remained active, and there is a great talent pool that can often outcompete other regions such as China. The Chinese scene, which was once dominant, has also had its problems, such as a lack of talent, which has created an opportunity for SA teams to become real contenders in the world.
What is the Future of the Americas in PGL Wallachia S2 Playoffs?
However, the journey for the Americas teams will not be an easy one even with such a performance. Standing in their way are such teams as Team Falcons and Tundra Esports in the playoffs, which means that the North and South American teams are not very lucky.
Especially, Beastcoast was poor in the match against Team Falcons, which is not very good if they want to go far in the playoffs. As it stands, two of the Americas teams are already in the lower bracket and their chances of winning seem slim, and they could be eliminated early on.
However, there’s still hope. If only one team for example HEROIC can make it to the top four or even pull off a miracle and win the PGL Wallachia S2 title it would be a historic event for the region. HEROIC has been quite successful and if you want to bet on the outsider in this tournament, they are worth it.
The Americas: A New Era?
Whether it is a sign of things to come in the playoffs or not, this performance already points to a possible change of guard in Dota 2 for the Americas. There is still work to be done, particularly against the world’s elite teams, but what has been achieved at PGL Wallachia S2 has already done much to restore the fortunes of North and South America.
