FlyQuest has qualified for the PW Shanghai Major 2024 from the Asia Regional Major Rankings (RMR) in three days of LAN play. While the fighting intensifies in other areas, we have also heard from the Americas RMR—here are the key points.
FlyQuest Finishes a Spectacular Lower Bracket Streak in Asia RMR
FlyQuest was heavily favored to qualify for the PW Shanghai Major 2024, but their road was not easy, as they had to go through the entire Lower Bracket to qualify for the Major. The journey started with a very close 2-1 win against ohnePixel’s DRILLAS. In the last map on Ancient, DRILLAS had several opportunities to take match point but failed to capitalize on those opportunities, allowing FlyQuest to escape elimination.
The last time FlyQuest played against Lynn Vision, they were clearly on top. The Chinese team could only complete 10 rounds in two maps while FlyQuest dominated the game and won the final ticket to Shanghai. This is a revival for the Aussie lineup, who failed to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, so their triumph in the Asia RMR is a welcome return.
Wildcard and MIBR Both Triumph as Teams Go 3-0 in Americas RMR
The Americas RMR has also completed its first qualifiers, and there were some upsets. Wildcard was the first to qualify, marking a big achievement for the Amouranth-owned organization in the Major. Their journey was nothing less than inspiring, ending the tournament with a 2-0 victory over 9z Team in the last round. This means that stanislaw returns to the Major stage after his last appearance in 2021, and Sonic achieves his first Major ever after being a part of the team since 2013.
Also making it to the Major is MIBR, the Brazilian team who beat Complexity to earn their place. After a poor performance at the last Major, this qualification marks a strong comeback for the Brazilian team. MIBR was not guaranteed a spot in the Shanghai Major, but their early qualification shows a strong desire to bounce back in international tournaments.
No Surprises Among the Teams That Were Eliminated
In the Asia and Americas RMR, results among the eliminated teams were mostly as expected. In the Asia RMR, DRILLAS and TALON failed to qualify, which was anticipated in a tossup. Similarly, in the Americas, Case and Nouns exited the RMR, with neither team expected to advance further.
