FaZe Stage Epic Comeback to Eliminate Natus Vincere and Secure Paris Major Playoffs

Led by Finn “⁠karrigan⁠” Andersen’s tactical prowess and clutch performances, FaZe completed a remarkable turnaround to secure their spot in the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 playoffs.

After a shaky start in the second group phase, the European team bounced back with three consecutive victories, including a thrilling 2-1 win over Natus Vincere in the decider match.

Coach Andrey “⁠B1ad3⁠” Gorodenskiy acknowledged the pressure his team felt, stating, “We started to choke, we started to be nervous. People forgot what to do, threw another smoke, or forgot their roles… that’s very important because when you play against FaZe you have to play at the top of your concentration.”

Natus Vincere’s disappointing run in the Legends Stage came to an end with the loss to FaZe, marking their exit from the CS:GO Major. FaZe, on the other hand, overcame their early struggles in the tournament, securing their place in the playoffs after an initial 0-2 record. The European squad demonstrated resilience, defeating 9INE and Bad News Eagles to advance to the decider match.

This loss marks Natus Vincere’s fourth group stage elimination in a Major, the first since PGL Krakow 2017 when they were eliminated by fnatic with a 1-3 record.

The series began on FaZe’s map choice of Overpass, with Ilya “⁠Perfecto⁠” Zalutskiy delivering a standout performance to guide Natus Vincere to a 16-13 victory. FaZe responded emphatically on Mirage, dominating their opponents with a well-coordinated effort, resulting in a resounding 16-5 win.

The decisive map, Anubis, witnessed a fierce battle between the two teams. Natus Vincere initially held a commanding 15-9 lead, but FaZe refused to surrender. A remarkable CT-side comeback, spearheaded by Helvijs “⁠broky⁠” Saukants, forced overtime. After two sets of extra time, FaZe emerged victorious with a 22-19 scoreline, eliminating Natus Vincere from the Major.

The match showcased thrilling highlight plays and was hailed as the most entertaining series of the Major thus far, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. FaZe’s resilience and collective effort propelled them to the playoffs, where they will continue their quest for glory.
