Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the greatest League of Legends player of all time, has taken his success from the virtual world to the real world by owning a building in Seoul called Faker Tower. This real estate investment solidifies Faker’s status as a highly successful esports player and entrepreneur.
Faker is among the highest-earning esports athletes, reportedly earning over US$5.8 million (7.1 billion won) in 2022, with the majority of his income going towards investments. In a conversation on the talk show Trash Talk, hosted by former pro player and content creator Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, T1 CEO Joe Marsh disclosed that Faker’s investments alone could potentially allow him to retire comfortably.
Renowned for his modest lifestyle, Faker is not one to boast about his wealth. In a 2020 TV appearance, he mentioned that his monthly expenses only amount to roughly US$170 (200,000 won) as T1 covers his housing and food expenses. As a result, the majority of his earnings are invested, with one significant investment being Faker Tower.
Faker Tower is situated in Gangseo, Seoul, at 114-12 Hwagok-dong, the district where Faker grew up. The building has nine above-ground floors and two basement levels, housing private medical facilities and a ground-floor cafe. A search on Naver will reveal the building listed as Faker Tower.
The building is easily accessible, located approximately 100 meters from Hwagok Station on Line 5 (purple line) of the Seoul subway. Although visitors may not have the chance to spot Faker at the tower, League of Legends fans traveling to Seoul could still snap a photo of the landmark if they happen to be nearby.
