North American team Evil Geniuses will replace Detonate at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR event, as confirmed by BLAST. Detonate was forced to withdraw from the Monterrey, Mexico tournament on Friday.
Detonate announced that they could not participate in the event because they needed to make two last-minute substitutions. Jack “micro” Ryan could not attend due to a passport application error, while Brett “brett” Rhein experienced a sudden serious health issue.
The rulebook allows for only one substitution, leaving Detonate unable to field a complete roster. The rulebook also outlines the procedure for selecting a replacement team, with the slot going to the “next-highest ranked team.”
Evil Geniuses secured that spot by finishing 8th in the Americas RMR closed qualifier. The team, led by Sanzhar “neaLaN” Iskhakov, failed to qualify for the Americas RMR after a 3-2 performance in the Swiss group stage of the qualifier and ultimately losing in the 7th place decider match against TeamOne.
In order to “minimize disruptions to preparations,” Evil Geniuses will take over Detonate’s tournament seeding and previously announced matchups, following Valve’s guidance.
Evil Geniuses must also adhere to the same rules as other teams that qualified via the closed qualifier. This means they are locked into their core five players and can either add one coach and one substitute or one coach who is also listed as a substitute.
