Evil Geniuses’ EG Gold Roster Parts Ways: A Shift in the Women’s Counter-Strike Scene

In a significant development within the esports industry, Evil Geniuses’ all-women Counter-Strike team, EG Gold, has officially disbanded.

This move comes in the wake of the players’ contracts expiring on Christmas Day, marking an end to their journey with the renowned organization.

Evil Geniuses made their foray into the women’s Counter-Strike scene in August 2022 by forming the EG Gold roster. Despite their efforts, the team only managed to reach one offline event — the ESL Impact Season 2 Finals. Their journey was hindered by failing to qualify from North America’s division in both Season 3 and 4.

This development is a significant moment in the North American women’s Counter-Strike landscape, particularly as it leaves FlyQuest RED as the last professionally-backed women’s team in the region. This change coincides with ESL’s decision to reduce North America’s guaranteed spots at offline Impact finals to three for the year, further impacting the opportunities for women’s teams in the region.

The disbandment of EG Gold is part of a larger scale down of Evil Geniuses’ esports operations.

Following reports by esports journalist Richard Lewis in November about their intention to exit Counter-Strike, the organization has since sold their BLAST Premier slot to Cloud9, terminated their partnership with ESL, and withdrawn from the Copenhagen Major RMR’s NA closed qualifier.

The members of EG Gold, now free agents, are looking forward to new opportunities in their professional careers.

The roster included players from diverse backgrounds, such as:

  • Tilde “7licious” Byström from Sweden
  • Kiki “PiggyKiki” Long from China
  • United States natives Juliana “Juli” Tosic, Vanessa “vanessa” Gideon, and Kiara “m1lky” Makua

Their coach, Joseph “Muenster” Lima, is set to depart by December 31st.

This departure from Evil Geniuses signifies a pivotal moment in the women’s Counter-Strike scene, highlighting the challenges and changes within the industry. As these skilled players enter free agency, the esports community eagerly anticipates their next moves, hopeful for the continued growth and recognition of women’s teams in the competitive Counter-Strike landscape.
