Evil Geniuses and Thunderpick: A Strategic Alliance Amidst Rising Tensions

In a move that has both surprised and intrigued the eSports community, Evil Geniuses has announced the expansion of their partnership with Thunderpick to now include their DOTA 2 team.

This decision comes just ahead of the highly anticipated The International 12, scheduled for October.

Originally, the partnership between Evil Geniuses and Thunderpick was limited to supporting the team’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster.

Leonard Edwards, the head of global partnerships for Evil Geniuses, expressed his enthusiasm about the expanded collaboration, stating, “We’ve been so happy with Thunderpick as our presenting partner on the Counter-Strike side, and are thrilled to harness this support for our DOTA 2 team”.

However, the journey hasn’t been without its share of controversies.

About a year ago, Evil Geniuses faced significant backlash after making the contentious decision to drop their North American roster and pivot to the South American region. This move was particularly shocking given EG’s longstanding reputation as one of North America’s top teams. Adding fuel to the fire, Syed “SumaiL” Hassan, a former star of EG’s DOTA 2 team, has initiated legal proceedings against the organization, with the case slated for trial in November.

Thunderpick, on the other hand, has been gradually establishing its footprint in the eSports domain.

Apart from being the presenting partner for Evil Geniuses’ Counter-Strike squad, the online cryptocurrency casino has sponsored events like the CS:GO Thunderpick World Championship and personalities like Jake Lucky. However, there have been concerns raised about Thunderpick’s Curacao gambling license, which doesn’t permit betting in the US or the UK – a point of contention given EG’s Seattle base.

The partnership is expected to be showcased through “exclusive team content” and other fan experiences, the specifics of which remain under wraps for now.
