Evil Geniuses Acquire Refrezh in Roster Shake-Up

North American esports team Evil Geniuses has confirmed the signing of Danish player Ismail “refrezh” Ali, who previously played for Sprout. Rumors of refrezh joining Evil Geniuses have been circulating for some time, with the player expected to replace Jadan “HexT” Postma on the active roster.

Refrezh left Sprout’s active roster in February after being replaced by Rasmus “Zyphon” Nordfoss, who returned from inactivity. During his time with Sprout, refrezh took on the in-game leader (IGL) role but later stepped down, admitting the position had been challenging for him, ultimately leading to his removal.

Evil Geniuses has been experiencing a slump, finishing last at both BLAST Premier Spring Groups and ESL Pro League Season 17. They also participated in the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR as a replacement team but were eliminated after losing to Paquetá. Refrezh brings valuable tier-one experience to the struggling team, having been a member of Heroic for over a year and winning ESL Pro League Season 13.

The team will have ample time to incorporate refrezh into their roster before their next confirmed appearance at IEM Dallas 2023, which begins on May 29.

Following the acquisition, Evil Geniuses’ roster is expected to include Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte, Jerric “wiz” Jiang, Sanzhar “neaLaN” Iskhakov, and Ismail “refrezh” Ali, with Daniel “Vorborg” Vorborg as coach.
