A recent visual bug in Dota 2 temporarily transformed a standard cosmetic item into something that looked like the ultra-rare Crimson Witness from the 2024 Treasure collection. The issue, which surfaced on September 12 and was patched by late September 13, affected Luna’s weapon cosmetic, the Golden Twilight Schism, morphing it into the prestigious Twilight Schism of the Crimson Witness.
This visual glitch only impacted the item’s appearance in player inventories and the Steam Community Market, where prices for the Golden Twilight Schism nearly doubled. The item’s value spiked from its usual $0.30 USD to around $0.60 USD, driven by market speculation and confusion.
Genuine Crimson Witness items, however, are in a completely different league. These sought-after treasures regularly fetch prices upwards of $150 USD, with unopened containers sometimes listed for thousands. On average, dedicated collectors can expect to spend between $200 to $300 for an authentic Crimson Witness item, making it a highly coveted reward in the Dota 2 community.
Although Valve quickly resolved the bug, it didn’t happen before the unexpected price surge. Unfortunately for those who jumped on the price hike, the transformation didn’t carry over into the actual game, meaning no one managed to snag a cheap Crimson Witness.
The Twilight Schism of the Crimson Witness is one of the prized cosmetics that drop exclusively when witnessing a First Blood kill during The International. With The International 2024 (TI13) just days away, the bug likely originated from the recent addition of the Crimson Witness containers to the game.
