The Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers have been quite exciting and the round of 16 has been quite a treat. Here are the highlights of the matches, and how Cloud9 was able to beat one of their most challenging opponents in this stage.
Cloud9 Eliminates GamerLegion
Possibly the most eagerly awaited match of the round saw two of the favourites, Cloud9 and GamerLegion, face off much earlier than many would have wanted. As for GamerLegion, only one team could proceed and it was Cloud9 who won with the help of the reverse sweep.
Nevertheless, GamerLegion can find some consolation in the fact that they have managed to achieve some results with their inexperienced lineup. On the other side, Cloud9’s new members, ICY and HeavyGod, played a crucial role in getting through to the next round of CS2 for the team.
Monte and OG Stunned
Monte and OG were supposed to progress far in the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers but both teams failed to deliver. Monte, which had a team of experienced players, and OG, which demonstrated good results in recent online tournaments, were eliminated in the round of 16.
Monte was defeated by BetBoom, and OG was defeated by ALTERNATE aTTaX. However, the two teams will be unhappy with their performances though they were able to take maps from their opponents. As for Monte, DemQQ and kRaSnaL were the ones who underperformed, while OG’s loss was mainly due to Buzz’s poor performance. This was a chance for both teams to qualify to a major CS2 LAN event, but now they will have to go back to the online battles.
TSM Reverse-Sweeps B8
The last game of the round was also the most exciting one where TSM defeated B8 in a reverse sweep. While B8 seemed to have the upper hand on the first map, TSM gave the Ukrainians a scare and then took the reins of the series. The two teams have been among the most consistent grinders in the Tier 2 scene and it was sad that only one team was going to progress.
TSM is largely indebted to Zyphon who played exceptionally well with a K/D ratio of 68:46 and an ADR of 103 across the three maps. Valde also rose to the occasion and gave TSM the solidity it required to clinch the victory. B8, on the other hand, was a very solid team, but they did not have that one big name that could clinch the series and were outplayed by TSM.
