Cloud9 secures a spot in the semi-finals of Pro League Season 17 after defeating MOUZ with a score of 2-1. This marks their second consecutive appearance in ESL’s flagship league final four. The Russian team struggled during the CT side of Inferno, allowing Cloud9 to take a 1-0 lead. However, MOUZ managed to turn the series around on their Vertigo pick before Cloud9 dominated on Mirage to secure their victory.The two teams last faced off at the IEM Rio Major, where MOUZ came out on top. This time around, it was Cloud9 who got the better of their opponents, ending their playoff run in Malta. “It’s always fun when you get revenge on a team that threw you out at the Major,” said Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov in a post-game interview.
Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov helped Cloud9 take an early lead on Inferno, but MOUZ fought back to tie the score at 3-3 and take a 6-3 lead. Although frozen managed a quad kill to bring the score to 4-6, MOUZ was unable to turn the tide and trailed 6-9 at halftime. Despite securing the first three CT rounds on Vertigo, MOUZ was unable to maintain their lead and ended up losing 16-10.
Cloud9 took a decisive lead on their pick, Mirage, before MOUZ managed to force a decider with a score of 16-11. The final map of the series saw Cloud9 dominate from the beginning, securing a 6-0 lead before MOUZ was able to win their first round. Although MOUZ fought back to score a few rounds, Cloud9 ultimately won the match with a score of 16-10.
Cloud9 will advance to the Pro League grand final if they can defeat the winner of the ENCE vs. Vitality match on Saturday. They will sit out on Friday while the remaining quarter-finals are played.
