League of Legends has been included as one of seven games at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where esports will be an official medal event for the first time.
China recently unveiled its preliminary roster, which includes 25 players who will be boot camping for the event. However, only five of them, plus one substitute player, will make it to the final roster.
The preliminary roster includes 369, Breathe, Bin, Shanji, and Ale in the top lane; Tian, Aki, Xun, Wei, and Jiejie in the jungle; Creme, Xiaohu, Yagao, and Knight in the mid lane; GALA, Lwx, Light, JackeyLove, and Elk in the bot lane; and Hang, Crisp, MISSING, ON, Ming, and Meiko as support.
Head coach Kenzhu and assistant coaches Maokai and Arron will lead the selection process, which will be made over the coming months. The start date has yet to be confirmed, as some players on the list, such as Elk and Knight, are currently in London for the Mid-Season Invitational.
Most of the selected players come from some of the top-performing LPL teams during the 2023 Spring Split. Ale, Jiejie, and Meiko are from EDward Gaming, Hang is from LNG Esports, 369, Knight, and Missing are from JD Gaming, Breathe, Wei, GALA, and Ming are from Royal Never Give Up, Xiaohu, Light, and Crisp are from Weibo Gaming, Tian and JackeyLove are from Top Esports, Lwx is from FunPlus Phoenix, and Shanji, Aki, Creme, Bin, Xun, Yagao, Elk, and ON are from Bilibili Gaming.
