CBLoL Outperforms LCS in Spring Split Viewership

The 2023 Spring Split saw CBLoL surpass LCS in terms of viewership, as reported by Esports Charts. With a peak viewership of 276,078 and an average of over 111,000 per game, CBLoL outperformed the LCS, which peaked at 271,376 and averaged around 109,000 viewers per game.

The shift in LCS broadcasting dates and times, announced by Riot Games at the end of 2022, likely contributed to this decline. Holding LCS games during the week, with broadcasts starting at 12 pm PT, made it difficult for North American fans to watch their favorite teams compete. Some have criticized the decision as ‘stupid’ and have pointed to a dwindling fan base as another reason for the LCS’s decline.

Despite the LCS’s struggles, other regions have experienced growth in viewership. The LPL reached a peak of 200,576 viewers, while Korea’s LCK saw a staggering peak of nearly 1.5 million viewers during the 2023 Spring Split. This success is often attributed to Korea’s deep-rooted esports culture.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s premier league, CBLoL, continues to gain momentum, hitting new viewership milestones and solidifying its South American fan base. The future of the LCS remains uncertain unless significant changes are made to reverse its declining popularity.
