BLAST and NODWIN Gaming Unveil ‘The Draft’ for Indian and Pakistani Counter-Strike Teams

In a groundbreaking collaboration, esports tournament organizer BLAST and South Asian esports powerhouse NODWIN Gaming have announced the launch of ‘The Draft,’ a new Counter-Strike tournament series.

This innovative initiative is set to propel the Indian and Pakistani Counter-Strike scenes to new heights, offering unprecedented opportunities for teams to compete with renowned players in the esports arena.

Scheduled for January and February 2024, The Draft is an ambitious project that aims to shine a spotlight on the burgeoning talent in India and Pakistan. With a substantial prize pool of $50,000 (approximately £39,898), the tournament is poised to become a landmark event in the region.

A Battle of 64 Teams Culminating in Kuala Lumpur

The Draft will feature an intense online qualifier round where 64 teams will vie for a coveted spot in the final 12. These top teams will progress to the group stage, setting the stage for high-stakes competition. The pinnacle of The Draft will be the Super Six LAN event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the top three teams from each group will battle it out for supremacy.

In a unique twist, each of the six teams in the Super Six will be mentored by a ‘Counter-Strike legend,’ selected through a draft process. While the identities of these legends remain undisclosed, their involvement is sure to bring invaluable experience and global appeal to the event.

Celebratory Show Match at BLAST Premier World Final 2023

To mark the launch of The Draft, Indian esports organization True Rippers Esports and Pakistani team Team WahWah will participate in a special show match during the BLAST Premier World Final 2023 on December 16th. This match is expected to be a thrilling preview of the talent and excitement The Draft promises to deliver.

BLAST’s Strategic Expansion into South Asia

The introduction of The Draft signifies BLAST’s strategic entry into the South Asian esports market, following a significant €12.7m (~£10.9m) investment aimed at global expansion. This move demonstrates BLAST’s commitment to fostering esports talent and audiences in emerging markets.

Faye Marlborough, Brand Director at BLAST, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with NODWIN Gaming: “We are delighted to be teaming up with NODWIN Gaming to launch The Draft, giving Indian and Pakistan Counter-Strike teams the chance of a lifetime to play with CS legends on a global stage. The Draft will not only act as an important pathway for aspiring players but will also provide an exciting tournament for global and local fans to enjoy”.

The Draft represents a significant step forward in the evolution of esports in South Asia, promising to open doors for local talent and integrate the region more deeply into the global esports narrative.
