Astralis’ Academy team, the young Danish squad, has achieved its highest-ever ranking, securing the No. 35 spot in the HLTV ranking following a series of wins in the online circuit. The team recently won three tournaments, including the CCT North Europe Series 4, where they defeated significant teams such as GamerLegion, Copenhagen Flames, and SINNERS. In contrast, Astralis has struggled to meet expectations, with their only notable achievements being a title from CCT North Europe Series 3 online and a 4-6th placement at BLAST Spring Groups. The main team, led by Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, showed little progress at the ESL Pro League Season 17, where they were eliminated early on.
Despite Astralis’ struggles, their Academy team’s success shows the trajectory these two teams are currently on. It is worth noting that Astralis won the previous edition of the CCT tournament, but the academy side was able to replicate their achievement without household names such as Nicolai “device” Reedtz, gla1ve, and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer.
The young Danes’ recent fortunes have turned for the worse in the CCT Central Europe Series 5, where they have lost series to Illuminar and Young Ninjas, with a 1-2 record in the Swiss stage. Other academy sides such as MOUZ NXT and BIG Academy are also in attendance, making the event a further testing ground and a place for Astralis Talent to continue demonstrating their progress.
Alexander “Altekz” Givskov has been the standout player for Astralis Academy, leading the line alongside Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen. Alexander “br0” Bro has also impressed since his arrival ahead of the 2023 season, with an average rating of 1.09 and topping the charts at POWER Ligaen with a 1.46 rating over the four maps played.
